Åbning af 𝘚𝘤𝘳𝘰𝘭𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘰 𝘕𝘢𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘢𝘭 𝘚𝘵𝘢𝘵𝘦

Fredag d. 7. juli åbner vi duo-udstillingen 𝘚𝘤𝘳𝘰𝘭𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘰 𝘕𝘢𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘢𝘭 𝘚𝘵𝘢𝘵𝘦, og vi vil i den anledning invitere på en forfriskning og en fejring af udstillingen i den gamle kiosk på Sallingsundvej 33A, Aalborg Øst. Dagen vil byde på en introduktion til udstillingen og kunstnernes arbejde samt performancen 𝘚𝘯𝘢𝘪𝘭 𝘌𝘨𝘨 𝘔𝘶𝘬𝘣𝘢𝘯𝘨 af Rikke Bogetoft.

2023 er 100 året for udgivelsen af bogen 𝘉𝘢𝘮𝘣𝘪 – 𝘈 𝘓𝘪𝘧𝘦 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘞𝘰𝘰𝘥𝘴 af Felix Salten — en fortælling, der følger dådyrets liv og den erfaring, den gør sig om de farer, som mennesket udgør i skoven. I forlængelse af dette jubilæum har Kamilla Mez og Rikke Bogetoft skabt en række værker til duo-udstillingen 𝘚𝘤𝘳𝘰𝘭𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘰 𝘕𝘢𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘢𝘭 𝘚𝘵𝘢𝘵𝘦, der udspringer af koblinger mellem online eksistens og doom scrolling, naturoplevelser og en fænomenologisk undersøgelse af relationen mellem mennesker og dyr og hvordan denne er medieret af kultur, teknologi og tid.

Over en årrække har hjorte-dyret haft en mere present rolle i Mez’ Instagram feed, hvor en række billeder, memes og videoer popper op, der viser hjorte-familien trænge mere og mere ind i menneskets terræn. Igennem billedserien 𝘉𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘉𝘢𝘮𝘣𝘪 bearbejdes teknologiens transcenderende egenskaber, der både afvikler menneskets evne til koncentration og fordybelse, men også opererer som rum for samhørighed og fælles værdier — ved at koble tegning sammen med en række nøje udvalgte motiver fra et virtuelt virvar, hvor billeder og videoer kortvarigt bliver fastholdt i beskuerens blik, aspirerer værkserien 𝘉𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘉𝘢𝘮𝘣𝘪 ikke bare at genvinde kunstnerens, men også beskuerens, sind.

I takt med at klimakrisen forværres og pandemien har raset verden over, har Bogetoft fundet sig selv fortabt i medierede forestillinger om naturen oftere og oftere. Portrætteringer af dyr og menneskers interaktion med disse, forvrænges i TikTok-algoritmer og Instagram-trends til absurde og dadaistiske fortællinger om verden. Det umenneskelige bliver besjælet igennem teknologiens fortællerstemme, og tankerne drages imod drømmen om det enkle liv, der tillægges hjorte, kaniner og andre ‘nuttede’ dyr. Bogetoft refererer til Disney’s romantisering af naturen, bl.a. i tegnefilmen 𝘉𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘉𝘢𝘮𝘣𝘪 fra 1942, og udpeger både denne besjæling som en defamiliæring af det umenneskelige, og som en romantisering af den ‘nuttede’ eksistens og dermed det menneskeskabte hierarki over levende væsener. Denne menneskelige trang til kontrol over fortællingen er udgangspunkt for Bogetoft’s værker, som i stedet overlader fortællerstemmen til det ikke-menneskelige samt det hybride tredje.

Hvis du ikke har mulighed for at deltage i åbningen, så vil der også blive afholdt to læsecirkler søndag d. 16. juli og torsdag d. 20. juli kl. 16 – 18, hvor vi i fællesskab dykker ned i et par uddrag fra Saltens 𝘉𝘢𝘮𝘣𝘪-roman. Derudover holder udstillingen åbent efter aftale fra kl. 10 – 21 frem til d. 20. juli.

~ om kunstnerne ~

Kamilla Mez (f. 1993, Berlin, hun/hende) er kunstner og kunstorganisator, og bor og arbejder i Aalborg. I 2022 dimitterede hun fra Master of Fine Art programmet på HDK-Valand i Göteborg, Sverige, og i 2019 færdiggjorde hun en bachelor fra Kunst og Teknologi på Aalborg Universitet. Hun har modtaget legater fra Mannheimer’s Scholarship, Tobison Foundation Stipends samt arbejdslegat fra Statens Kunstfond i 2023, og udstillet på flere platforme, bl.a. Göteborgs Konsthall, Kunsthal Aarhus, SKAL Contemporary og Musikkens Hus Aalborg. Mez har været med til at starte flere platforme op i Nordjylland, bl.a. den diskursive platform, Nordoplyst, som skaber samtalesaloner om samtidskunst i den nordjyske region, og den hybride kunst organisation Aalborg Artist’s Association (AAAA), der arbejder for bedre vilkår for nordjyske billedkunstnere.

Rikke Bogetoft (f. 1995, Gurre, hun/dem) er en queer-feministisk kunstner og kulturskaber baseret i Aalborg. Bogetoft afsluttede i 2020 sin Bachelor i Art & Technology ved Aalborg Universitet, og påbegynder deres Master of Fine Art ved HDK-Valand i Göteborg, Sverige. De har deltaget i lokale og internationale hus-kunstner-programmer med bl.a. Cunts Collective i Brasilien, Associazione Meno i Sicilien, og Sisters Hope Home i Hedehusene. Bogetoft har udstillet og performet ved både lokale initiativer som Art Room 1000Fryd, P224 og Mutation Week, samt i etablerede institutioner, som ved Biennale Arcipelago Mediterraneo, Kulturmødet og Kunsten. Deres kunstneriske praksis går i hånd med deres formidlende og organisatoriske arbejde, bl.a som næstforperson i foreningen NEMA, der kæmper for tryggere rammer og safer spaces politikker i Nordjyllands natte- og kulturliv, og som stifter af tisl have, en nyopstartet gestus for øjeblikskunst ifm. Opening of 𝘚𝘤𝘳𝘰𝘭𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘰 𝘕𝘢𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘢𝘭 𝘚𝘵𝘢𝘵𝘦

Friday July 7th, we will open the duo exhibition 𝘚𝘤𝘳𝘰𝘭𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘰 𝘕𝘢𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘢𝘭 𝘚𝘵𝘢𝘵𝘦, and on that occasion we will invite you to refreshments and a celebration of the exhibition in the old kiosk at Sallingsundvej 33A, Aalborg Øst. The day will offer an introduction to the exhibition and the artists’ work, as well as the performance 𝘚𝘯𝘢𝘪𝘭 𝘌𝘨𝘨 𝘔𝘶𝘬𝘣𝘢𝘯𝘨 by Rikke Bogetoft.

2023 is the 100th year of the publication of the book 𝘉𝘢𝘮𝘣𝘪 – 𝘈 𝘓𝘪𝘧𝘦 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘞𝘰𝘰𝘥𝘴 by Felix Salten — a story that follows the life of a deer and its experience of the dangers posed by man in the forest. As for celebrating this anniversary, Kamilla Mez and Rikke Bogetoft have created a series of works for the duo exhibition 𝘚𝘤𝘳𝘰𝘭𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘰 𝘕𝘢𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘢𝘭 𝘚𝘵𝘢𝘵𝘦, which links online existence and doom scrolling, nature experiences and a phenomenological study of relationships between humans and animals and how this is mediated by culture, technology, and time.

Over a number of years, the deer animal has had a more present role in Mez’s Instagram feed, where a number of images, memes, and videos pop up showing the deer family encroaching on human terrain more and more. Through the picture series 𝘉𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘉𝘢𝘮𝘣𝘪, the transcendent properties of technology are processed, which both dismantles the human capacity for concentration and immersion, but also operates as a space for cohesion and shared values ​​— by linking drawing together with a number of carefully selected motifs from a virtual jumble, where images and videos briefly held in the viewer’s gaze, the series of works 𝘉𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘉𝘢𝘮𝘣𝘪 aspires not only to reclaim the spirit of the artist, but also of the viewer.

As the climate crisis worsens and the pandemic has raged worldwide, Bogetoft has found themself lost in mediated notions of nature more and more often. Portraits of animals and people’s interaction with them are distorted in TikTok algorithms and Instagram trends into absurd and Dadaist narratives of the world. The inhuman is enlivened through the narrator’s voice of technology, and thoughts are drawn towards the dream of the simple life attributed to deer, rabbits and other ‘cute’ animals. Bogetoft refers to Disney’s romanticization of nature, i.a. in the cartoon 𝘉𝘢𝘮𝘣𝘪 from 1942, and designates both this animating as a defamiliarization of the inhuman, and as a romanticisation of the ‘cute’ existence and thus the man-made hierarchy over living beings. This human urge to control the narrative is the starting point for Bogetoft’s works, which instead leave the narrator’s voice to the non-human and a hybrid third.

If you are unable to attend the opening, two reading circles will also be held on Sunday 16 July and Thursday 20 July at 16 – 18, where we collectively will dive into a few excerpts from Salten’s 𝘉𝘢𝘮𝘣𝘪 novel. In addition, the exhibition is open by appointment from 10 am to 9 pm until July 20th.

Kamilla Mez (b. 1993, Berlin, she/her) is an artist and art organizer, who lives and works in Aalborg. In 2022, she graduated from the Master of Fine Art program at HDK-Valand in Gothenburg, Sweden, and in 2019 she completed a bachelor’s degree in Art and Technology at Aalborg University. She has received grants from Mannheimer’s Scholarship, Tobison Foundation Stipends and a working grant from the Statens Kunstfond in 2023, and has exhibited on several platforms, including Göteborgs Konsthall, Kunsthal Aarhus, SKAL Contemporary and Musikkens Hus Aalborg. Mez has helped start up several platforms in North Jutland, i.a. the discursive platform, Nordoplyst, which creates discussion salons about contemporary art in Northern Jutland as well as the hybrid art organization Aalborg Artist’s Association (AAAA), which works for better conditions for visual artists in Northern Jutland.

Rikke Bogetoft (b. 1995, Gurre, she/they) is a queer feminist artist and cultural creator based in Aalborg. Bogetoft completed their Bachelor in Art & Technology at Aalborg University in 2020, and is starting soon staring a Master of Fine Art at HDK-Valand in Gothenburg, Sweden. They have participated in local and international house-artist programs with e.g. Cunts Collective in Brazil, Associazione Meno in Sicily, and Sisters Hope Home in Hedehusene. Bogetoft has exhibited and performed at both local initiatives such as Art Room 1000Fryd, P224 and Mutation Week, as well as in established institutions such as the Biennale Arcipelago Mediterraneo, Kulturmødet and Kunsten. Their artistic practice further unfolds in their mediating and organizational work, including as deputy chairperson of the association NEMA, which fights for safer settings and safer space policies in North Jutland’s nightlife and cultural life, and as founder of tisl have, a newly started gesture for contemporary art in relation to Kunstpionererne.
